Brake noise, vibration or a change in pedal feel can leave you wondering whether you need pads, rotors or something else. A brake inspection gives you information to review before choosing a repair. The goal is to understand the condition of the system and the reason for the recommendation.
Start by describing what changed
You do not need to diagnose your own brakes before booking. Tell your advisor what you notice and when it happens: during the first stop of the morning, at highway speed, after a long descent or every time you press the pedal. Mention recent brake work, warning lights and whether the symptom affects stopping.
If braking performance has changed significantly, the pedal sinks or the vehicle feels unsafe to stop, avoid driving it to the appointment. Call your shop to discuss the concern and towing arrangements.
Which components may be checked?
The inspection should follow the vehicle’s design and the reported concern. Areas commonly evaluated include:
- Pads or shoes: remaining friction material and the pattern of wear.
- Rotors or drums: condition and measurements relevant to the repair decision.
- Calipers and hardware: movement, condition and signs of uneven operation.
- Brake lines, hoses and fluid: visible leaks, damage and fluid concerns.
- Related symptoms: warning lights, pedal feel or vibration that may require additional diagnosis.
At Express Auto Repair, brake services include inspections, pad and rotor replacement, caliper replacement, and fluid-condition and leak checks. Your advisor will explain the work recommended for your vehicle.
Ask to see the findings
Our AutoServe1 digital inspections include photos of findings that need monitoring or attention. Ask your advisor to walk through the relevant photos and measurements. Useful questions include: Which component is worn? Is the condition different from side to side? What explains the symptom I reported?
A photo is helpful context, but ask for the explanation behind it. The repair recommendation should make sense to you before you approve it.
Compare the complete repair estimate
A pads-only estimate and an estimate that includes rotors cover different work. Check which axle is included, the parts being supplied, the labor, and the warranty. Ask about any additional charges and how further work will be approved.
Use our free online repair estimator for a starting price range. The inspection provides the vehicle-specific information needed to review the repair plan with your advisor. You can also check our current brake-service coupons before your visit.
