Two auto repair estimates can have very different totals without describing the same job. Before choosing a repair shop in Colorado Springs, compare the diagnosis, parts, labor and warranty together. That gives you a clearer picture of what you are paying for and which questions still need answers.
Start with the same vehicle and repair
Make sure both estimates identify the correct year, make, model and engine. Then compare the concern being repaired. An estimate for a suspected problem is different from a recommendation based on inspection and testing.
If your vehicle has a warning light or an intermittent problem, ask what has been confirmed and what still needs diagnosis. Our vehicle diagnostics service is a starting point for a concern that has not yet been explained.
Use this estimate-comparison checklist
- Repair scope: Are both shops proposing the same job and the same number of components?
- Parts: Which brand or specification is quoted? Are the parts new, remanufactured or another type?
- Labor: What removal, installation, testing and related work is included?
- Additional charges: Are diagnostic charges, taxes and shop supplies included in the total shown?
- Warranty: What time and mileage limits apply, and which parts and labor are covered?
- Approval: How will you be contacted if more work is recommended?
- Timing: Are the parts available, and what completion time has actually been confirmed?
Example: compare a brake job line by line
One brake quote may cover front pads only. Another may include front pads and rotors. A third may include both axles. Those are different repairs, so the totals alone do not tell you which is the better choice.
Ask the advisor to explain the inspection findings, which components need attention and why. Our brake repair page explains how to begin with an inspection and review the recommended work before approval.
Use an online estimate as a starting point
The Express Auto Repair estimator lets you choose your vehicle and a service to see an estimated price range. It is useful when you are planning a repair or comparing options. Your advisor will review the specific vehicle, findings and work needed before you authorize a repair.
You can prepare for that conversation by having the complete competing estimate available, including the date, vehicle information, parts list and labor details. A cropped total or a verbal price may leave out details needed for a fair comparison.
Have a lower written repair estimate?
Express Auto Repair’s current offer is: Got a lower repair estimate? We’ll meet or beat it. Choose Compare My Estimate to open our online estimator, then share the written estimate with your service advisor. See the full offer terms for eligibility and comparison requirements.
Talk through your options before approving work
Choose Galley Road, Montebello Lane or Briargate for directions, contact information and online booking. Bring your estimate and ask the advisor to explain any difference in the proposed repair. The goal is a clear plan for your vehicle and a price you understand before work begins.
