Plan a fall cooling-system check
Check the manufacturer’s time and mileage requirements for your make, model, and engine. Tell your service advisor about previous coolant service, warning lights, leaks, or overheating. Vehicle history and inspection findings help determine the next step.
Concerns to discuss before service
- A temperature warning or a gauge reading higher than normal.
- Coolant leaks, a falling coolant level, or a sweet smell.
- Poor cabin heat or a change in engine operating temperature.
- Unknown coolant history or a maintenance interval shown in the owner’s manual.
Do not remove a radiator or coolant-reservoir pressure cap while the engine is hot. If the vehicle is overheating, stop driving when it is safe and arrange assistance rather than continuing to drive with an overheating engine.
Ask about diagnosis before choosing a repair
