Ways To Keep Your Transmission Healthy
Keeping a transmission healthy starts with the maintenance schedule for your particular vehicle. There is no single annual or 15,000-mile fluid-change rule that applies to every automatic, CVT, dual-clutch or manual transmission.
Use your vehicle's maintenance schedule
Check the owner's manual and maintenance guide for the required inspections and service intervals. Ask whether your driving conditions require a different schedule. Bring service records so your advisor can see what was performed and which fluid was used.
Confirm the fluid specification and checking procedure
Transmission fluids are not interchangeable simply because they look similar or are labeled synthetic. Use the manufacturer's required specification. Some transmissions have no owner-accessible dipstick and require a particular temperature or workshop procedure for an accurate level check.
Avoid adding fluid, additives or cleaning products without confirming the vehicle's requirements. Express Auto Repair does not offer fluid flushes. Discuss the appropriate maintenance or repair for your transmission with your advisor.
Have changes in operation checked
Report slipping, delayed engagement, unusual noises, warning messages or a new leak. Explain whether the symptom happens cold, after warming up or under a particular driving condition. These observations help plan testing; they do not prove that the entire transmission needs replacement.
Do not force the shifter or keep driving a vehicle that cannot reliably engage a gear. Call the shop to discuss safe transport when necessary.
Ask what the diagnosis supports
Before approving work, ask what testing found, which repair is recommended, what the estimate includes and what warranty applies. Our transmission repair and replacement page explains the next step. If you have a service contract, review our CarMax/MaxCare repair information and discuss authorization requirements before work begins.
Choose Galley Road, Montebello Lane or Briargate for contact details and appointment options. Call your preferred shop if you are unsure the vehicle can be driven safely.
